Speaker’s Decision is Anti-Democratic – Vijayendra

Bengaluru: BJP State President and MLA B.Y. Vijayendra has stated that the decision of the Honorable Speaker to suspend 18 BJP MLAs is an anti-democratic move.

Speaking to the media today, he remarked that senior ruling party minister Rajanna came to the assembly and pleaded, admitting that he was a victim of a honey trap. He revealed in the house that over 48 politicians from the state and the country have fallen into honey traps. It is the Chief Minister’s responsibility, as the leader of the house, to protect such ministers, and likewise, it is the duty of the Speaker, he said.

“The reputation of all 224 MLAs has been tainted. The Speaker holds the position of protecting these legislators. If, as the opposition, we fight on behalf of the ministers asking for protection, and we are forcefully thrown out, this is completely unacceptable,” he criticized.

“The Chief Minister should have taken responsibility for their protection. Instead of stepping forward to protect the ministers, he allowed the suspension of our MLAs for protesting about their safety. This is totally wrong,” he objected.

He expressed concerns that the dignity of legislators is being auctioned off in front of the nation. “The arrogance of power has reached its peak, and the Congress party’s sins are overflowing. There is intense competition for the Chief Minister’s post, leading the ruling party to push its own ministers and legislators onto the streets,” he remarked.

He accused the government of failing to protect Dalit and Scheduled Caste ministers, questioning whether the Chief Minister lacked the strength to stand up for them. He recalled that during the tenure of the current Chief Minister, a group of Muslim rioters had set fire to the house of Dalit MLA Akhanda Srinivasamurthy, but the then-Chief Minister did not come forward to protect him.

“History is repeating itself. There is no concern for Dalits or Scheduled Castes. The Chief Minister is only focused on Muslims. If he cannot even ensure the safety of legislators and ministers within the assembly, should such a Chief Minister continue in office?” he questioned.

“Who passed the note during yesterday’s assembly session? Let there be an investigation into everything. The BJP and JD(S) strongly condemn this anti-democratic action and will meet with the Honorable Governor,” he declared.

He accused the Chief Minister of failing to protect his own ministers, calling it a murder of democracy. “The Chief Minister’s actions are questionable. The honey trap controversy involving Karnataka ministers has become a nationwide debate,” he stated.

He pointed out that Minister Satish Jarkiholi himself confirmed the incident. “The names of the legislators and ministers involved in the honey trap should have been exposed. The Chief Minister should have had the courage to order an investigation, but he did not,” he challenged.

“The Chief Minister’s credibility has been exposed before the people of the state. The Congress party stands exposed before the citizens of Karnataka,” he said.

He also questioned whether tax money collected from the people should be distributed solely to one religion, urging the public to consider the implications.
